Pelosi Update
The BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico is the worst environmental disaster in American history. New estimates from scientists show more than 1 million gallons of oil are leaking from the broken pipe each day threatening the local economies of coastal communities, as well as the Gulf states’ wildlife refuges and marine sanctuaries.

Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi released the following statement on a key immediate benefit of health insurance reform for America’s seniors. Starting today, one-time, tax-free checks of $250 will be mailed to tens of thousands of seniors who have fallen into the ‘donut hole’ prescription drug coverage gap. These checks will continue to be mailed monthly over the next several months as seniors enter the coverage gap, with an estimated 4 million seniors receiving this help:
