Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today after the House passed the bipartisan Government Efficiency, Effectiveness, and Performance Improvement Act, which offers Congress new tools to reduce wasteful and ineffective spending and cut the deficit by assessing the performance of federal agencies. The Senate passed the bill last week; the House passed it today by a vote of 216 to 139 and it now goes to the President for his signature into law:

This legislation includes a sweeping overhaul of our nation’s food safety system and works to more effectively prevent, detect, and respond to food-borne illnesses. The Senate passed the bill on Sunday; the House passed this afternoon by a vote of 215 to 144 and it now goes to President Obama for his signature into law:
