Pelosi Update

Democrats in Congress are fighting to keep our economy moving forward, and that means working day in and day out to improve the lives of women and their families.

The recent outbreak of youth suicides around the nation by LGBT teens who have been teased and bullied is a clarion call for our country that we must take immediate action to stop the bullying now.

On Wednesday, I had the privilege of touring the McRoskey Mattress Company, a family-owned business that has been manufacturing mattresses in San Francisco since 1899.

In response to the worst recession since the Great Depression, the 111th Congress took action to bring our economy back from the brink and restore American jobs here at home.

The most eloquent voices in this debate have been the small business owners themselves, who are still having difficulties obtaining the capital they need to keep their doors open and to grow.

On Monday, I joined Small Business Administrator Elizabeth Echols and local small business owners at the opening of The Culinary Edge, a new small business in San Francisco that provides integrated culinary services to the restaurant and foodservice industries.

The thoughts and prayers of the Bay Area and the nation go out to the victims of the natural gas explosion in San Bruno.

Yesterday, I was proud to join student veterans at San Francisco State University (SFSU) to discuss the Post 9/11 GI Bill – restoring the promise of a full, four-year scholarship for our Iraq and Afghanistan veterans and their dependents.
