On Wednesday, the Senate passed a bipartisan transportation bill by a vote of 74 – 22 to create jobs, invest in road, rail, transit, and highway construction, rebuild our infrastructure, and strengthen our economy.

As gas prices continue to rise, Congress must take strong action to protect consumers from speculation.

This week, House Republicans put forth a highway transportation bill that kills 550,000 American jobs, undermines public safety, cuts highway investments in 45 states, and bankrupts the Highway Trust Fund by $78 billion.

After more than 400 days in the majority, House Republicans have failed to put forward a clear plan to create jobs or strengthen the middle class. Instead, they have introduced legislation that would potentially destroy 2 million jobs.

This week, House Republicans doubled down on their pledge to let Medicare “wither on the vine,” leading to an end of the guarantee and an increase in costs for our seniors.

This week, President Obama delivered a strong vision in his State of the Union address of an economy that’s built to last; one that ensures a thriving middle class, promotes fairness for working families, and reignites the American dream.
