Fighting for America's Women

Pelosi Update

Fighting for America’s Women
Moments ago, Republicans in the Senate blocked consideration of the Paycheck Fairness Act, just days after House Republicans voted unanimously against bringing the bill to the House floor for a vote. In doing so, the GOP stands against fundamental fairness for America’s working women and families struggling to get by.

Equal pay for equal work should be a pillar of our democracy. In this time of great economic challenge, the 77 cents that women make for every dollar men make adds up to a real impact on working families. When we strengthen economic security for America’s women, we strengthen economic security for America’s families. My Democratic colleagues and I will continue to work on behalf of the opportunity for all Americans to participate equally in the prosperity of our country.

25 Days…
Time is running out, with only 25 days remaining until student loan rates double for over 7 million Americans nationwide. Unless Congress acts now, the increase will add $6.3 billion to students’ debt burden in one year alone. We are committed to preventing the increase from happening and keeping college affordable. Republicans, on the other hand, voted in their budget to double the student loan interest rate, while also slashing financial aid by $166 billion over 10 years at the same time that they protect millionaires, Big Oil, and corporations that ship jobs overseas.

The GOP has abandoned efforts to work with Democrats to find a responsible path that would prevent the doubling of interest rates on America’s students.
