Pelosi Update

A Day for Prayer and Remembrance
The thoughts and prayers of all Members of Congress are with Coloradans as they grapple with the random, senseless act of violence that took the lives of innocent people. As local law enforcement, first responders, and medical professionals work tirelessly in the aftermath, the federal government will be a partner. The nation and its leaders are praying for the families as they confront this terrible tragedy.

Fighting for American Consumers
This week, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) announced that due to deceptive marketing practices, Capitol One will refund approximately $140 million to two million customers. Established by the Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act passed by the Democratic majority in 2010, the new, independent bureau will protect families and small businesses by ensuring that consumers have access to loan products, mortgages, and credit cards that are fair, affordable, understandable, and transparent.

Unfortunately, during this Congress House Republicans have worked to delay and defund parts of the Wall Street Reform Act that will protect consumers the most, including:

  • Introducing legislation to repeal Wall Street reform.
  • Passing a budget that includes zero funding to implement Wall Street reform.
  • Voting to fundamentally weaken the CFPB by ending its ability to act decisively to protect consumers and support a well-informed, efficient marketplace for consumer financial products.

Health Reform for all Americans
Today, the Obama Administration announced a proposed rule to permit the children of same-sex partners of federal workers to stay on their parent's plan until age 26. Under the Affordable Care Act, passed by a Democratic Congress and signed into law by President Obama, young people can stay on their parent’s insurance plan until their 26th birthday.
