Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi released the following statement this afternoon after House Republicans refused to support the Seniors Protection Act. As we enter the second consecutive year without a cost-of-living adjustment for Social Security retirees and other beneficiaries, this legislation would have echoed the help provided in 2009 in the Recovery Act and provided 54 million Social Security recipients with a one-time payment of $250 to help them make ends meet during this tough time:

Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi spoke on the House floor this evening in strong support of the DREAM Act of 2010, which passed the House by a bipartisan vote of 216 to 198. The DREAM Act is common-sense legislation to give hundreds of thousands of young people brought to our country without a choice the chance to earn legal status and contribute to our country’s well-being by serving in the U.S. Armed Forces or pursuing a college education.

Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi released the following statement this evening following House passage of H.R. 3082, Making Further Continuing Appropriations for Fiscal Year 2011 and the Food Safety Enhancement Act. The bill, which passed the House by a vote of 212 to 206, funds the government for fiscal year 2011 and includes a sweeping overhaul of the nation’s food safety system. It now goes to the Senate.
