Pelosi Statement on January Jobs Report
Washington, D.C. - Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today on the report that the economy added 36,000 jobs in January and the unemployment rate dropped to 9 percent. This report also marked the 11th consecutive month of private sector job growth:
"Today's jobs report sends a clear message: while our economy is starting to move in the right direction, Republican leaders should not take risky actions that jeopardize economic growth and job creation. The Republican leadership is pushing a budget plan at the expense of American jobs in critical areas including rebuilding our nation, transportation and energy.
“For the past two years, Republican leaders have failed to offer a jobs plan of their own and that has not changed since November. Democrats are focused on Americans’ top priority - jobs – while Republicans are pushing a divisive agenda that fails to put people back to work.
"Democrats will measure every effort by whether it creates jobs, strengthens the middle class, and reduces the deficit and we must work together to meet these goals."
