Washington, D.C. — Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today after the Department of Labor announced that the economy added 142,000 jobs. With businesses adding 118,000 jobs last month, September represents the 67th consecutive month of private sector job growth:

"Last month's jobs report shows we have more work to do to move our economy forward. There is clearly more Congress can and must do to create jobs, raise wages and meet the needs of America's hard-working families.

Washington, D.C. – Today, Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi sent a letter to Speaker John Boehner calling for the creation of a Select Committee on Gun Violence to confront the crisis of gun violence in America and recommend common sense legislation to help end it. In addition, Leader Pelosi urged Congressional passage of the bipartisan King-Thompson bill to strengthen background checks that save American lives.
