Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi spoke on the House floor tonight in support of an amendment to the Defense Authorization Act that calls for a repeal of the discriminatory Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy. The amendment passed in the House by a vote of 234 to 194. The vote on this policy comes after the first Harvey Milk Day in California and before the celebration of Memorial Day on Monday. Kabul, Afghanistan - Speaker Nancy Pelosi led a Congressional Delegation to the Kandahar Province in Afghanistan today, where they received a briefing from the commander of the South Region of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF).

To honor women on Mother's Day, the delegation then went to Qalat, in the province of Zabul, where they had a working lunch with female troops, and U.S. AID and non-governmental personnel who work with Afghan women.
