Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement in response to Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood’s announcement of $368 million for high-speed and intercity rail in California, including $300 million for the Central Valley segment and $68 million for state-of-the-art passenger rail equipment made in America. These funds were reallocated from the $2 billion rejected by Governor Rick Scott of Florida.

Tax Breaks For the Oil Industry?
As families, workers, and small businesses across the country continue to face tough economic times, record gas prices – averaging nearly $4.00 per gallon – are causing additional hardship. It is especially unfair that these middle class families, workers, and small businesses are also footing the bill for tens of billions in taxpayer subsidies for oil companies which made over $900 billion in profits over the last decade – with another $36 billion in profits just this quarter.
