Earlier this week, President Obama put forward a balanced approach to how we can reduce the deficit, grow the economy, and create jobs. Democrats are united behind the President. We appreciate his balanced approach to this and look forward to working with him on it.

Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi issued the following statement today after the Republican Continuing Resolution failed to pass the House by a vote of 195 to 230. The bill sets a dangerous precedent by offsetting the cost of critical disaster assistance for states and communities hard hit by recent natural disasters by ending the Advanced Technology Vehicle Manufacturing loan program – an initiative that puts people to work producing cleaner cars and investing in innovation.

“Today President Obama outlined a bold and balanced plan that will reduce our nation’s deficit while promoting jobs and economic growth. By calling for reforms that will ensure that all Americans contribute their fair share, and by strengthening Medicare, the President is ensuring that we aren’t balancing our budget on the backs of the middle class and seniors.
