Pelosi Leads Congressional Delegation to the Middle East

House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi will lead a Congressional Delegation to the Middle East. The group will travel to Egypt, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, and Lebanon from March 18 to March 25.

Pelosi will be joined by Representatives Darrell Issa (R-CA), George Miller (D-CA), Henry Waxman (D-CA), Edward Markey (D-MA), Anna Eshoo (D-CA), James McGovern (D-MA), and Linda Sanchez (D-CA).

Pelosi Secures Funds for San Francisco Bay Area Transportation Projects

Washington, D.C. - House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi today announced $72 million for several key San Francisco Bay Area transportation projects in addition to continued funding for the seismic retrofit of the Golden Gate Bridge. The transportation bill approving* the funds passed the House of Representatives today by a vote of 417 to 9. The Senate has not yet passed its version of the bill.

Pelosi, Thompson, Woolsey Deliver $3.3 Million for Golden Gate Bridge Seismic Retrofit

Washington, D.C. -- House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi and Representatives Lynn Woolsey and Mike Thompson announced today the release of more than $3.3 million from the U.S. Department of Transportation for the ongoing seismic retrofit of the Golden Gate Bridge. This is the first installment of the $5 million the representatives secured in the fiscal year 2005 transportation bill.

In Memory of Magdaleno Duenas

Mr. Speaker, I rise to pay tribute to the life of Magdaleno Duenas, a World War II military hero who passed away on February 27 at the age of 90.

We honor and thank him for his courageous military service and the sacrifices he made for our nation, as well as his lifelong struggle on behalf of Filipino veterans of World War II. His life is a symbol of the struggle for total recognition of Filipino veterans and a sad reminder of a shameful page in the history of our nation.

"As Americans, we make a simple yet sacred promise to our courageous servicemen and women: 'You have taken care of us, so we will take care of you.' The disabled veterans tax breaks that promise. Denying full retirement and disability benefits to disabled veterans dishonors the sacrifice made by our brave men and women.
