Washington, D.C. – House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement on the success of the Affordable Care Act in making quality coverage available for less than $100 for nearly 6 out of 10 uninsured Americans:
"The Affordable Care Act is finally making the dream of quality, affordable health coverage a reality for millions of uninsured Americans. In California and across the country, people who had been priced out or turned away from the health coverage in the past are discovering they can secure quality, dependable coverage for less than $100 a month.
"These Americans are discovering what the health law means for them—not just affordable, dependable coverage, but the freedom from fear that comes with it. At long last, these families will not have to skimp on preventive care, or live in constant dread of an accident or illness driving them into financial ruin. In California alone, more than 5.5 million uninsured people are eligible for new quality, affordable coverage thanks to the Affordable Care Act.
"It is truly upsetting that so many Republican governors have refused to accept the Medicaid expansion that would extend this affordable coverage even further – to as many as 5.4 million uninsured Americans living within their borders.
"The Affordable Care Act is working, and our nation's consumers and workers are better off. It's time for Republicans to stop rooting for failure, and to start working with Democrats to strengthen the Affordable Care Act for all Americans."
