San Francisco – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement after the Trump Administration announced that it would end a federal rule requiring businesses to report information about pay disparities among genders, races and ethnic groups:

“The Trump Administration’s decision to stop monitoring wage discrimination is a deeply disturbing sign of this White House’s tolerance for inequality and injustice.

“Equal pay for equal work is an indispensable pillar of a healthy democracy, strengthening families, communities and the nation.  Yet, Republicans have time and time again refused to bring legislation ensuring paycheck fairness to a vote and have failed to lift a finger to address the unconscionable pay gaps facing women and communities of color.

“For decades, Democrats have fought for the fair pay and the bigger paychecks that Americans deserve, and we will stand strong against Republicans’ efforts to give their corporate friends a free pass to offer ‘unequal pay for equal work.’”
