Washington, D.C. – Speaker-designate Nancy Pelosi released the following statement marking the third anniversary of the historic Paris Climate Agreement:

"Three years ago, the nations of the world came together to declare with a single voice our commitment to tackling the growing climate crisis with boldness, vision and unity. Yet, in the face of rising temperatures, surging seas and record floods, fires and storms that devastate communities and threaten our security, the Trump Administration is abandoning its solemn duty to take action.

"Inspired by the energy and activism of the many young organizers and advocates leading the way on the climate crisis, the new Democratic Majority will act decisively to combat the crisis and rebuild America with clean energy, smart technology and resilient infrastructure. We will create good-paying jobs through bold investments in research and efficiency, and will pave the way into the future with green, job-creating infrastructure while expanding access to broadband for all. Democrats will reinstate the select committee to address the climate crisis while proudly honoring our responsibility to the next generation by holding this Administration accountable for their polluting of our children's clean air and clean water.

"For Democrats, combatting the climate crisis is not an issue – it is a moral imperative that compels us to act to ensure we leave a healthier, safer and more sustainable future for our children and grandchildren. House Democrats will ensure the voices of experts, advocates and entrepreneurs are heard as we work with cities, states, and global partners to uphold our commitments in the Paris Agreement and protect the beauty of God's creation for future generations."
