San Francisco – Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued this statement following the ruling of the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals to allow the Federal Communications Commission's (FCC) repeal of net neutrality protections to go forward, while also striking provisions that would have blocked states from implementing their own net neutrality laws:

"Today's decision by the Court is a disappointing blow to the promise of a free and open internet. The FCC's repeal of net neutrality protections is a blatant giveaway to big providers and corporate interests that jeopardizes the strength of our economy and the entrepreneurial spirit that has made America the envy of the world. Senator McConnell must hold a vote on the House-passed Save The Internet Act to restore net neutrality provisions and ensure a level playing field for American consumers, entrepreneurs and small businesses.

"Thankfully the Court's ruling forces the FCC to reevaluate how repealing net neutrality impacts vulnerable communities, and stops the FCC from blocking states from implementing their own robust net neutrality protections. While the federal government refuses to protect hard-working families, California's leadership in enacting the strongest net neutrality protections in the country is a model that will ensure that the internet remains an engine of innovation, job creation and free speech for all Americans."
