Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi issued this statement after House Intelligence Committee Republicans voted to prematurely conclude the Russia investigation:

"Today, every Republican on the House Intelligence Committee cast a vote against America's national security interests.

"Every day, we learn more about the depth and breadth of Russia's attacks on our democracy. The American people deserve a comprehensive and fair investigation into Russia's meddling in our elections. But from the start, House Republicans have waged a cowardly campaign to obstruct, interfere and cover-up the facts for President Trump.

"This is yet another example of Republicans' failure to address the Russian threat to our democracy, under Speaker Ryan's leadership. The GOP is abdicating their oath to support and defend the Constitution, and protect the American people.

"At the same time, the President has launched a new barrage of personal attacks on Special Counsel Mueller. His fawning over Putin and refusal to confront him for attacks on our country and our allies makes us all ask, what do the Russians have on Trump, politically, personally and financially?

"The American people deserve American leadership, not a President willing to hand over our democracy to Putin. Democrats will continue to demand the Special Counsel investigation be allowed to continue to follow the facts, unhindered by the White House or Republicans in Congress, and will take real, immediate action to secure our elections from foreign interference."
