Pelosi Statement on Granting of New Ethanol Waivers

San Francisco – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi issued this statement after the Trump Administration directed the EPA to remove barriers to sales of fuel containing 15 percent ethanol nationwide and year-round:
"Expanding the sale of homegrown clean energy is a long-overdue step to provide urgently-needed relief for America's farmers, yet it does little to relieve the pressure from the retaliatory tariffs, plummeting farm prices and economic uncertainty happening under the President's watch.
"Democrats remain vigilant to ensure that this new measure will create real benefits for America's farmers, and will continue to hold the Trump Administration accountable for its massive handouts to its Big Oil friends at the expense of family farmers. Speaker Ryan must immediately bring Congressman Loebsack's bipartisan Consumer and Retailer Choice Act to the floor to expand consumer choice at the pump and reduce America's dependence on fossil fuels.
"Republicans need to set aside special interests and join Democrats to provide more certainty to rural and farm communities, whether it's robust investments in renewable energy or passing a bipartisan, balanced Farm Bill. Democrats are fighting For The People as we work to lower families' costs, create jobs by rebuilding America and clean up corruption to make Washington work for everyone."
