Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement regarding the end of the Affordable Care Act's first open enrollment season today, as HealthCare.gov saw a record volume of 1.2 million visits through noon – including more than 125,000 users at one time.

"The results are in: with the close of the Affordable Care Act's first open enrollment period, millions of Americans have secured new quality, affordable health coverage for themselves and their families.

"While open enrollment is ending, the benefits and protections of this historic law are at work year-round. The Affordable Care Act is providing security for the new couple starting a family, for the entrepreneur getting ready to launch a new business, for the workers who now know that their health insurance will always be there. This measure is ensuring that women are never charged more than men for the same coverage; that young adults can stay on their parents' insurance until age 26; that no one can be turned away for having a pre-existing condition; that seniors can get free preventive care and afford their prescription drugs. This law is liberating families from the fear that an accident or illness will drive them into bankruptcy, as it holds down costs and improves efficiency in our health care system.

"Thanks to the Affordable Care Act, millions of Americans are enjoying new health security, and the personal and economic freedom it provides. Yet still, after voting 51 times to repeal or undermine the law, Republicans won't give up on their outright assault on the health and economic stability of the middle class. Now is the time to celebrate the successes of the Affordable Care Act, to strengthen it for the years to come, and to maintain health care as a right, not a privilege, for all Americans."
