Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement after the House passed a bipartisan, bicameral Child Care and Development Block Grant Program reauthorization:

"The Child Care and Development Block Grant reauthorization passed by the House today represents an important step forward for millions of children and hardworking families. High-quality child care programs are essential for the future of our families and the strength of our economy. This bipartisan bill contains critical provisions to improve the safety, quality and accessibility of child care.

"However, this authorization bill will not make a difference in the lives of our children unless it is matched with robust federal funding to ensure these new improvements in the health, safety, and quality of child care succeed. Democrats will continue to fight for these critical investments in our children and our future.

"For us to unleash the full potential of America's working women and jumpstart the middle class, we must do more. For the sake of our children; for the sake of our workers; for the sake of our global competitiveness, Republicans cannot let this step forward be our last."
