Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today to mark the one-year anniversary of the Supreme Court’s decision upholding the Affordable Care Act as constitutional:

“One year ago, the Supreme Court honored the vows of our founders of ‘life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness’ by upholding the Affordable Care Act as consistent with the values, spirit, and provisions of our Constitution. Indeed, the highest court in the land reaffirmed that health care would be a right, not a privilege, for all AmericImage removed.ans.

“As we approach the Fourth of July – the moment of our nation’s independence – we celebrate the Affordable Care Act as a source of health independence for America’s families and small businesses. Already, this law has offered essential protections to millions of children, students, seniors, families, and small business owners. In fewer than 100 days, with the full implementation of this legislation, Americans will benefit from greater wellness and prevention, more choices and competition in the insurance market, and increased access to quality, affordable care.

“The Affordable Care Act is a critical pillar of the health and economic security of our country’s middle class, working families, and small businesses. We must keep working together, with our communities, with medical professionals, with patients, to ensure all Americans continue to have the opportunity to lead healthy lives and the liberty to pursue their happiness.”
