Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement calling on Speaker Ryan not to recess the House before holding a vote on commonsense gun violence prevention legislation, including the ‘No Fly, No Buy’ bill and legislation to strengthen and expand background checks:

“A week after the worst mass shooting in American history, House Republicans continue to put the NRA ahead of their responsibility to keep the American people safe.

“So far, the Republican House will not even allow a vote on legislation as commonsense as keeping guns out of the hands of suspected terrorists and criminals. The overwhelming majority of Americans want action on commonsense gun violence legislation – and the House of Representatives owes them a vote.

“The Republican House must not leave Washington before holding a vote on commonsense gun violence legislation. No Bill, No Break.”
