Pelosi Update

Trump Temper Tantrum

On Thursday night, House Republicans voted to shut down government – refusing to vote on a bill to keep government open that was unanimously passed by the Senate, and choosing instead to push a radical border wall bill that is dead on arrival. Now – knowing that he doesn’t have the votes in the Senate to fund his immoral, ineffective and expensive wall – President Trump is throwing a tantrum, threatening a “very long” shutdown.

Over and over, President Trump has declared that he’d be “proud” to shut down the government, even saying “I will take the mantle. I will be the one to shut it down” if he cannot force American taxpayers to spend billions of dollars on an immoral, ineffective and expensive wall.

Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi and Senator Chuck Schumer held a press conference this week after President Trump announced that he would not keep government open if it did not include funding for a border wall.

Democrats have offered three options to keep government open – but President Trump and House Republicans are deciding to drive our nation into a pointless, destructive shutdown over the holidays. If they steer our nation into a Trump Shutdown, in early January, the new House Democratic Majority will swiftly pass the appropriation bills with a CR for Homeland Security to re-open government.

My office was able to advocate for an emergency disability benefit check for an unhoused constituent. My constituent opened a new bank account and closed his old account prior to changing his direct deposit information with the Social Security Administration (SSA). Because of this, my constituent had not received his benefits necessary to support himself. SSA dispersed an emergency check within 24 hours of our request.
