Get Rental Assistance Today
Seeing families get evicted from their homes is heartbreaking: families suffering the indignity of being forced from their homes, personal belongings out on the street for all to see, the desperation to find shelter. Mass evictions, especially during a public health emergency, are a challenge to the conscience of our country—and Democrats are committed to preventing this crisis.

That is why, thanks to the tireless efforts of Democrats in Congress, legal experts, and the Biden-Harris Administration, we are thrilled to announce that the CDC has extended the national eviction moratorium to October 3rd, 2021 in areas of substantial and high COVID-19 transmission.

This vital eviction moratorium extension will provide more time for the $46.5 billion in rental assistance already allocated by Congress – including $5.2 billion for California – to flow to families struggling to make rent. In addition to this aid, San Francisco has over $182 million in rental assistance available for families in need right now. This support is available to renters and landlords who have experienced financial hardship due to the pandemic, are at risk of experiencing homelessness or housing instability and those who have a household income at or below 80% of area median income. As Democrats continue fighting to crush the pandemic and strengthen our economy, the extended eviction moratorium will be a life line for many struggling families.

Defending Democracy and Holding the Former President Accountable
Last week, the Committee on Oversight and Reform obtained handwritten notes taken during a December 2020 phone call between former President Trump and former Acting Attorney General Jeffrey Rosen. These shocking records reveal attempts by the former President to directly pressure the two most senior officials at the Department of Justice to overturn the certified results of the 2020 presidential election or risk losing their jobs – and have revealed yet another assault on our Democracy. These revelations bring shame to the office he held and reaffirm his role in inciting an insurrection against the United States Capitol on January 6th.

The findings come at a time when our country has tragically lost two more officers from the Metropolitan Police Department who responded to the attack on January 6th. Officer Gunther Hashida and Officer Kyle DeFreytag were heroes who risked their lives on that dark day to save our nation's Capitol, the Congressional community and our very Democracy. All Americans are indebted to them for their great valor and patriotism on January 6th, and throughout their service to our country. The sacrifices these officers made for our country will never be forgotten— Congress and the nation stands with the families of these law enforcement heroes as we keep them in our thoughts.

In light of this week's findings of the former President's gross abuse of power, and as we continue to honor our law enforcement heroes, Congressional Democrats will be persistent in pursuit of the truth of the insurrection. Under the leadership of The Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol, Congress will continue bring the truth of this day to light.
