Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement after the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled, 8-3, that the 1964 Civil Rights Act protects employees from workplace discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation:

"Freedom from discrimination is a fundamental civil right that belongs to every American. The 7th Circuit decision is a resounding victory for LGBT Americans and the right of every person to dignity and opportunity in the workplace.
