Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today after the Department of Labor announced that the economy added 103,000 jobs in September and the unemployment rate remained at 9.1 percent. With 137,000 jobs added by private businesses, this marks the 19th consecutive month of private sector job growth:

"Today's report makes it clear: we must act now to put people back to work, strengthen our small businesses and grow our economy. Americans cannot afford to wait any longer.

"Steve Jobs was a visionary who changed the way we live, an innovator whose products brought joy to millions, a risktaker who wasn't afraid to challenge the status quo, and an entrepreneur who led one of the most creative companies of our time.

"His sage advice was respected by policymakers on both sides of the aisle. His courageous fight against cancer brought strength to many.
