Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement after more than 60 Members of Congress signed a letter urging the Obama Administration to take all measures, including considering the use of pardon authority, to protect America's DREAMers:

“Today, thousands of young DREAMers are stuck in a terrible limbo, left to dread the possibility of President Trump deporting them from the only home they have ever known.  These young people are American in every way but on paper, and all they have asked for is the opportunity to live, work and contribute to the country they love.

“Thursday marks six years since the House, with Democrats in the Majority, passed the DREAM Act that would have given these patriotic young people the legal status and pathway to citizenship they deserve.  Now, DREAMers who came forward to enroll in President Obama’s DACA initiative could have their addresses and personal data handed to an incoming-administration that made intimidation and hateful statements against immigrants a hallmark of the campaign.

“President Obama should use every possible measure to protect our DREAMers and their data.  House Democrats will continue to stand behind our young DREAMers, and we will continue to fight for the comprehensive immigration reform our nation so urgently needs.”
