Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released this statement ahead of the consideration of Trade Promotion Authority legislation in the Senate, which begins today:

"House Democrats have been trying to find a path to yes on the Trans-Pacific Partnership. In reviewing this agreement, Members have made suggestions and we thank the Administration for the continuing briefings provided over the past two months.

"While three years in the Trade Promotion Authority bill may be appropriate for foreseeable trade agreements, there is unease with a process that would provide carte blanche for agreements unknown, for countries to be determined, for a time in perpetuity.

"This is just one of the concerns Members have with the TPA before the Senate. We hope this legislation will be improved in the amendment process."
