Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today after President Obama announced the resignation of White House Chief of Staff William Daley and his appointment of the Director of the Office of Management and Budget, Jack Lew, as his new Chief of Staff:

“William Daley’s tenure as White House Chief of Staff has been marked by his commitment to President Obama’s agenda and his strong leadership during a year of unnecessary crises created by Congressional Republicans. President Obama was fortunate to have an experienced, steady hand at the helm of the White House, and we all remain grateful for Bill Daley’s service to this administration and throughout his public career.

“Following in his footsteps will be Jack Lew, a proven leader with extensive House experience, an expert on our nation’s toughest economic challenges, a strong voice in addressing our nation’s budget deficit, and a dedicated public servant with a long record of achievement inside and outside of government. House Democrats congratulate him on his appointment and look forward to working with him to strengthen our nation and serve the American people.”
