Pelosi Statement on Republicans Suing the President

Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement after House Republicans' third attorney finally filed a lawsuit against the President:

"After scouring Washington for months, Republicans have finally found a TV lawyer to file their meritless lawsuit. While the American people want Congress to get serious about creating good-paying jobs and strengthening the middle class, House Republicans are paying $500-an-hour in taxpayer money to sue the President of the United States.

"The fact is, this lawsuit is a bald-faced attempt to achieve what Republicans have been unable to achieve through the political process. The legislative branch cannot sue simply because they disagree with the way a law passed by a different Congress has been implemented. It is clear, as one leading legal scholar put it, that this lawsuit is ‘an embarrassing loser.'

"Yet again Republicans are prioritizing the special interests and the howls of impeachment-hungry extremists before the needs of the nation. It's time for Republicans to abandon their special-interests first agenda, and join Democrats to pass legislation that matters – legislation that creates jobs, raises new ladders of opportunity, and reignites the American Dream."
