Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement on the Republican Judiciary Subcommittee's first hearing of 2014, an all-male attack on women's reproductive rights:

"Less than ten days into the New Year and House Republicans are at it again – renewing their assault on women's reproductive rights. The American people are waiting for the House to act on critical national issues like extending unemployment insurance, raising the minimum wage, and passing comprehensive immigration reform, but Republicans cannot move past their backward obsession with rolling back women's health care rights.

"It's no wonder that House Republicans have to keep taking lessons on how to talk to women. When you have a subcommittee that is 100 percent male considering legislation restricting women's rights and denying a woman Member of Congress, Eleanor Holmes Norton, the ability to testify on that legislation, it's pretty clear those lessons aren't taking.

"America's women deserve better than eight Republican men trying to dictate and control the most intimate medical decisions in their lives. We should be holding hearings on issues that really matter to the women of this nation; our women's economic agenda to unleash the full potential of America's women with equal pay, paid family and sick leave, and affordable child care for all."
