Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement after President Obama signed the bipartisan budget package into law:
“Today, we have moved America forward: preserving the full faith and credit of the United States, and enacting a bipartisan budget that strengthens our national security, protects our seniors, creates jobs and invests in the future.
“We have extended the solvency of Social Security Disability Insurance and protected millions of seniors from a significant increase in their Medicare Part B premiums and deductibles next year. We have affirmed that the full faith and credit of the United States is non-negotiable and unbreakable. At long last, we have broken the sequester’s stranglehold on our national defense and our investments in good-paying jobs and the future of America – creating an additional 340,000 jobs next year alone.
“While two-thirds of Republicans voted against this compromise, Democrats were united by our values and our determination to win progress for hard-working families. We showed we had the votes and the resolve to sustain the President’s vetoes of funding bills that did not meet the needs of the American people. As we move forward to complete the appropriations process and keep government open, Democrats will continue to stand strong for all hard-working Americans.”
