San Francisco – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement on the fourth anniversary of the implementation of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals immigration initiative:

“With the implementation of President Obama’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals four years ago today, we honored our values as a nation. Brilliant young people raised in the United States have been able to contribute to the social fabric of our country and fulfill their potential as a result of DACA.

“By empowering hard-working young people to achieve their dreams, we are forging a stronger America. President Obama used the authority conferred to him by Congress to take action in the face of Republicans’ reckless refusal to fix our broken immigration system. With their anti-immigrant rhetoric and drive to build walls instead of bridges, House Republicans are failing to strengthen America’s future.

“This Republican Congress’ agenda of discrimination that seeks to end DACA and deport talented students will not strengthen our country. Immigration makes America stronger and has always reinvigorated our communities, our culture, our companies, and our economy. Democrats will continue to stand behind our young DREAMers, and we will continue to fight for the comprehensive immigration reform our nation so urgently needs.”
