Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi today released the following statement on House Republicans’ unveiling of the separation of powers portion of the so-called “A Better Way” agenda:
“The latest plank of House Republicans’ Wrong Way agenda is nothing more than a hollow effort to shift attention away from Republicans’ spectacular and corrosive obstruction.
“Again and again, House Republicans have obstructed the Congress, the Administration and the Courts – doing everything they can to put their radical, special interest agenda ahead of the priorities of the American people. While they grandstand on the Constitution, Republicans have refused to renew the Voting Rights Act that guards the most sacred right in our democracy. While they call for transparency, Republicans have done everything they can to ensure secret, special interest money continues to flood our elections. They refuse to hold a fair hearing and a timely vote on the President’s nominee to fill the vacancy on the Supreme Court.
“The Wrong Way agenda would do nothing but make it easier for House Republicans to prevent progress with their special-interest priorities and stack the deck for their special-interest friends. If Republicans want to restore faith in Congress, they should end the obstruction and come together with Democrats to act on the priorities of hard-working Americans.”
