Protecting Our People and Our Planet

No Veteran Left Behind

Each year, Veterans Day brings our nation together in gratitude for the patriotism, courage and selfless service of our military heroes. Throughout our history, generations of brave Americans have proudly donned the uniform to defend the liberties we all hold dear – fighting valiantly for Democracy in our nation and throughout the world.

Honoring the service of these warriors has long been and must always be a unifying mission – a priority that transcends party and politics. This summer, with great respect for their sacrifice, the Congress passed and President Biden signed the PACT Act. Made possible by the passionate advocacy of veterans, families and caregivers, this monumental achievement is protecting the health of those who fought to protect us – expanding access to care for as many as 3.5 million Servicemembers. It is with great pride that House Democrats also secured vital housing support for veterans through our American Rescue Plan, and we will continue fighting to strengthen life-saving mental health services with the House-passed STRONG Veterans Act.

On this day, and every day, let us renew our resolve to build a future worthy of our veterans' sacrifice. All Americans share in a sacred obligation: just as the military leaves no one behind on the battlefield, we must leave no veteran behind when they come home.

All In on Climate Action
This week, I am leading a Congressional delegation to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change 27th Conference of the Parties (COP27) in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt. Our delegation is proudly conveying the commitment of the United States Congress to continuing the robust progress made to tackle the climate crisis under the leadership of President Biden.

At COP27, as the world stands "Together For Implementation," our distinguished and experienced delegation is engaging in meetings with our partners – as well as civil society, youth and business leaders – to discuss the work that must be done to continue our progress to advance climate action and protect the planet.

As humanity confronts an accelerating climate crisis, the United States Congress is proud to work side-by-side with our partners around the world to advance a healthier, more sustainable and more equitable future for all. We're all in, and since last year's COP26 in Glasgow, President Biden and the Democratic Congress have proudly enacted the Inflation Reduction Act, the most significant climate investment in U.S. history:

  1. Slashing carbon pollution by 40 percent this decade.
  2. Lowering energy costs by investing in energy efficient homes, vehicles and appliances.
  3. Strengthening energy security by bringing clean energy manufacturing to American shores and creating millions of good-paying jobs.
  4. Decarbonizing our economy, substantially reducing pollution from electricity production, transportation, industrial manufacturing, buildings and agriculture.
  5. Investing over $60 billion in environmental justice priorities to ensure that underserved communities share in the benefits of our transition to a clean economy.

Affirming Disability Advocacy
Please join me in congratulating Sascha Bittner, who was recently sworn in as my appointee to the National Council on Disability. Sascha is a trailblazer in our community, and she will bring invaluable passion and insight to her service. Sascha's focus is on community support and services for those living with disabilities and their caregivers, and we look forward to all Sascha will accomplish on behalf of San Francisco and the nation.

Tireless disability advocates like Sascha have moved our nation closer to fulfilling our founding promise of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness for all people. Let us recommit to upholding respect and advancing equality for Americans with disabilities through opportunity, independent living, community integration and economic self-sufficiency.
