Fighting For Food Sovereignty
On Saturday, I joined local education and nutrition experts for a food sovereignty system roundtable at the Florence Fang Community Farm – a pillar in the fight against hunger in the Bayview, which House Democrats were proud to support with $375,000 in funding from our American Rescue Plan. Together, we discussed the importance of communities' ability to grow and take control of their own food supply.

One of our nation's most basic moral duties is ensuring that every child is free from the awful scourge of hunger. The Florence Fang Community Farm is the largest community farm in San Francisco: empowering families, supporting diverse cultural cuisines and helping preserve our planet. It was my privilege to visit this facility alongside Ted Fang, who attended last month's historic White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition and Health, and Florence Fang, who shared her invaluable insights at House Hunger Caucus listening sessions earlier this year.

Inspired by the Florence Fang Community Farm's tireless work, House Democrats will never relent in our fight to bolster federal nutrition assistance, strengthen families' food security and end the unjust suffering of hunger once and for all.

Accelerating Innovation
The United States has long been a global beacon of excellence in science and technology – thanks in large part to the Bay Area, the cradle of innovation. Yet, decades of neglect and underinvestment has threatened America's world leader status. Thanks to the passage of Democrats' CHIPS and Science Act and Inflation Reduction Act, we are reinvesting in our nation's research advantage: ensuring that American minds, American workers and American businesses will lead the industries of the future – while safeguarding our economic and national security for generations to come.

On Monday, I joined Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Congresswoman Anna Eshoo and local scientists for a tour of the Stanford Linear Accelerator Laboratory (SLAC) – seeing firsthand the world-class research supported by these historic investments and bolstered by the State Department's new Bureau of Cyberspace and Digital Policy.

Guided by President Biden's bold leadership, the Democratic Congress is working to ensure that the 21st Century will be the American Century – forged by the brilliance of the American people.

Student Loan Forgiveness Applications Are Now OPEN
On Monday, President Biden announced that millions of working and middle class borrowers can now apply for student debt relief. The Administration's plan will provide up to $10,000 in relief to borrowers with federal student loans and up to $20,000 in relief to borrowers who were Pell Grant recipients. If you made less than $125,000 in 2021 or 2020, or if your family made less than $250,000 in 2021 or 2020, you can apply today!

The application is available on mobile and desktop, in English and Spanish. It takes less than 5 minutes, and you do not need to log in with a Federal Student Aid (FSA) ID or upload any documents to apply.

A local nonprofit organization contacted my office requesting help with delayed and inconsistent mail deliveries. After my office reached out to the USPS, additional mail carriers were assigned to the organization's route to expedite the delivery process.
