On This Morning's Violent Assault
Spokesperson Statement on Violent Assault on Paul Pelosi Earlier this morning, Paul Pelosi was attacked at home by an assailant who acted with force, and threatened his life while demanding to see the Speaker. Mr. Pelosi was admitted to Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital where he underwent successful surgery to repair a skull fracture and serious injuries to his right arm and hands. His doctors expect a full recovery. The Speaker and her family are thankful for the outpouring of support and prayers from friends, constituents and people around the country. Celebrating 50 Years of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area
On Wednesday, I joined the National Park Service to celebrate the Golden Gate National Recreation Area's 50th anniversary. For half a century, the National Park Service and its partners have defended the San Francisco Bay's sweeping views and sandy shores, its rocky cliffsides and precious wildlife – and the promise that this will remain a pristine space for everyone to enjoy. Every year, more than 15 million people witness the stunning natural beauty of this global icon.
That beauty is a blessing, but preserving it was a policy choice. It was a victory secured by advocates like Amy Meyer and the late Dr. Ed Wayburn and by leaders like my legendary predecessors, Phil and Sala Burton. It has been my honor to fight alongside our Bay Area Delegation to preserve that vision. Together, we secured the resources to save our beloved Presidio – restoring a piece of our history and building a peaceful retreat where San Franciscans can come together. And this summer, we unveiled the Presidio Tunnel Tops – finally reconnecting the Presidio's Main Post to our gorgeous waterfront.
With the Infrastructure Law and Inflation Reduction Act, House Democrats delivered nearly $3 billion to help preserve public lands across the nation and ensure Americans will enjoy these treasures for generations to come.
Platforming Democracy and Accountability
This week, I represented the United States in Croatia at the First Parliamentary Summit of the International Crimea Platform. Ukraine established the International Crimea Platform in 2021 with the goal of restoring Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity. This presented the opportunity for the United States and our allies and partners to declare our unified, unshakeable support for the people of Ukraine.
In addition to the plenary meetings, I was honored to participate in discussions with the legislative leaders of NATO's two newest members, Sweden and Finland. We also continued discussions from the G7 meeting in Berlin with President Bas of Germany on the allied commitment to Ukraine. The engagement of over fifty nations in this Summit is a statement of the international community's overwhelming support for Ukraine's fight.
Russia's brutal and unprovoked war is an assault on the sovereignty, territorial integrity and people of Ukraine and on democracy itself. Congress on a bipartisan and bicameral basis will not waver in our efforts to support Ukraine and hold Russia accountable. On behalf of the Congress, I made absolutely clear that America's support for Ukraine will continue until victory is won.
Earthquake Preparedness Resources
California's first-in-the-nation Earthquake Brace + Bolt program provides single-family homeowners in the Bay Area and across California with grants of up to $3,000 to strengthen their home and lessen the potential for earthquake damage. Registration for earthquake retrofit grants is open now through November 29.
Remembering Roz
I am heartbroken by the passing of Rosalind "Roz" Wyman, a visionary leader of Los Angeles. Roz was a force of nature: breaking down barriers for women in California politics, while forging new ways to bring people together through politics, the arts, and baseball. She made history as the youngest person elected to the LA City Council – and just the second woman to ever hold that office. Her leadership helped draw her beloved Dodgers to Los Angeles – and my Giants to San Francisco – so that California families could experience the thrill of America's pastime.
Personally, it was a blessing to share a warm friendship with Roz for decades: bonding over our devotion to family, passion for politics and love of sports. Roz, then-Mayor Dianne Feinstein and I had the privilege of leading the 1984 Democratic National Convention in my hometown of San Francisco as our party nominated the first woman ever for Vice President of the United States. She cared deeply about our democracy, about women's equality and about opening parks, arts and public service to everyone.

A constituent who was fined over $800 for filing their taxes incorrectly contacted my office for help. After my office reached out to the IRS, they received a penalty abatement that cleared most of what they owed.
