Internal Revenue Service
Thank you for contacting my office regarding your request for assistance with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
The IRS maintains a webpage that offers detailed answers to a wide range of tax-related concerns. Visit this site to find answers to frequently asked questions surrounding the agency.
Typically, refund requests take about three weeks after e-filing or eight weeks after paper filing. Additionally, information about your refund request is not typically available until three weeks after e-filing or six weeks after paper filing. To check the status of your refund, you can use this portal or call the Refund Hotline at 800-829-1954.
If you have lost or have not received your refund check, you should call the Refund Hotline at 800-829-1954. If your refund check has not been cashed, the IRS can normally provide a replacement within six to eight weeks. If your refund check has been cashed, the Financial Management Service (FMS) will provide a copy of the check and a Form 3911 Taxpayer Statement Regarding Refund in order to initiate a claim.
If you have an ongoing issue with the IRS that has not been resolved through normal processes – or you have suffered or are about to suffer a significant hardship because of the application of the tax laws – please contact the San Francisco Office of the Taxpayer Advocate at 510-907-5269.
If your problems with the IRS have not been resolved through any of the aforementioned channels, my office may be able to help. Below, you will find a link to a Privacy Release Form, which you must complete to start this process. Please complete the linked form to proceed with your casework inquiry, uploading additional documentation to support your claims where applicable.
If you have any further questions or this is a time-sensitive manner, please do not hesitate to contact my office at 415-556-4862.
