Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi and House Democratic Leadership held a press stakeout tonight, announcing their support of the seven-day Continuing Resolution to fund the Department of Homeland Security. Below is a transcript of the stakeout:
Leader Pelosi. I have this note because this evening, I sent a Dear Colleague to our House Democratic Members thanking them for their cooperation on their vote earlier today. "Our unity," the note says, "Was a strong statement that the Department of Homeland Security must be fully funded. We are asking our Members, it says, "to help advance passage of the Senate passed, long-term funding of DHS by voting in favor of a 7-day patch that will be on suspension in the House tonight," that is coming over from the Senate. It's already passed the Senate; it's coming over from the Senate.
I say to them, further, "Your vote tonight will assure that we will vote for full funding next week. Thank you for your leadership."
I'm very proud of our Members, the unity that we had. It showed the commitment to full funding. We certainly want to protect the American people every minute of every day, 24/7 – that includes today. And we believe that in the next seven days – hopefully five – that we will have a bill that takes us to the end of the fiscal year.
No questions. We're not taking questions. Thank you.
