Pelosi Statement on Reported Death of Alexei Navalny

Munich – Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi issued this statement on reports of the death of Alexei Navalny:

“Alexei Navalny has been a hero for freedom – for the Russian people and all over the world.  His unimaginable courage to take on a murderous tyrant like Putin, knowing his own life would be at risk, will be etched into history.  Today’s alarming reporting reaffirms that we cannot allow Putin to prevail in his diabolical assault on democracy.

“It was a profound privilege to hear his wife, Yulia, today at the Munich Security Conference.  Her extraordinary poise and strength under horrific circumstances were an inspiration to us all.  As we carry on the fight for freedom, my prayers are with Yulia, their children and all Russian people yearning to be free during this heartbreaking time.”
