Pelosi Statement on Record-Breaking 21.3 Million Affordable Care Act Sign-Ups

January 24, 2024

San Francisco – Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi issued this statement after a record-breaking 21.3 million Americans enrolled in health coverage under the Affordable Care Act during the 2024 open enrollment period, which ran from November 1, 2023 through January 15, 2024:

“Under the magnificent leadership of President Joe Biden, health care is more accessible and affordable than ever before.  That's why, this year, a record-shattering 21.3 million Americans signed up for health coverage under the Affordable Care Act – five million more than last year.  That means millions of families taking advantage of the $800 a year on average in cost savings that our Democratic Majorities delivered in our Inflation Reduction Act.  And if you live in the Golden State, you still have one more week to enroll in Covered California and ensure that your family has the benefits and protections you need.

“While the former president has declared that 'Obamacare sucks' and sets his sights on another effort to repeal it, the American people know that the Affordable Care Act cures.  President Biden and Democrats in Congress will always relentlessly defend the ACA from extreme MAGA attacks – and ensure that the ACA continues to stand as a pillar of families' health, security and freedom for generations to come.”
