Pelosi Statement on President Biden’s Recommendation of $500 Million for Transbay
Washington, D.C. – Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi issued this statement after President Biden’s FY 2025 budget request recommended $500 million for the Transbay Joint Powers Authority's Transbay Downtown Extension Project, which will extend Caltrain commuter rail service from the current Caltrain terminus to the Salesforce Transit Center:
“Today, President Biden released his budget request for the upcoming fiscal year – and happily, it included a recommendation of $500 million for Transbay in San Francisco. If enacted, this new federal investment, made possible by our historic Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, would help further unite the Bay by connecting Mission Bay to the heart of downtown via commuter rail. Doing so is essential to make it easier for commuters to get to work, for shoppers to support our local businesses and for communities to stay connected, while reducing our City’s carbon footprint.
“Safe, affordable and accessible public transit is key to San Francisco’s economic recovery and to saving the planet from the climate crisis. Thank you to Transbay for its vision in building a better-connected San Francisco – and I salute President Biden for his commitment to reimagining our nation’s infrastructure, with equity and justice for all.”
