Pelosi Statement on Weapons of Mass Destruction Report

Washington, D.C. -- House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today on the unclassified report of the President's Commission on the Intelligence Capabilities of the United States Regarding Weapons of Mass Destruction:

"The President's Commission on the Intelligence Capabilities of the United States Regarding Weapons of Mass Destruction concluded the intelligence on Iraq was 'dead wrong.' The President's decision to go to war in Iraq was also dead wrong -- the intelligence never supported his claim that Saddam was an imminent threat to the United States.

"The Commission went to great lengths to examine structural and other shortcomings in the intelligence community, but the investigation will not be complete unless we know how the Bush Administration may have used or misused intelligence to pursue its own agenda. The Commission's work can not be complete until the all facts are known.

"To uphold its responsibility to national security and to the American people, Congress must hold hearings to find out the truth about how the Bush Administration used intelligence to send our young people to war."
