Washington, D.C. â€" House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today after the U.S. Olympic Committee named San Francisco a finalist to host the 2016 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Summer Games:

â€Å"The U.S. Olympic Committee has recognized what residents of the Bay Area know so well: San Francisco is a world-class community that has the beauty, the infrastructure, the diverse culture, and the renowned hospitality to serve as an Olympic venue. Our bid reflects the values and legacy we can offer for the athletes, for fiscal responsibility, and for building international goodwill.

â€Å"Hosting the Olympics would provide an extraordinary opportunity for the Bay Area to show the world its special magic. I commend Mayor Newsom and the members of the Bay Area Sports Organizing Committee for their efforts and look forward to a vision for a San Francisco Games that will exhibit and enhance the unique nature of our beautiful city.”
