Pelosi Statement on Trump's Latest False Promises for Workers

Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi issued this statement after President Trump signed an empty Executive Order that fails to make real investments in workforce development:

"Once again, President Trump is wasting hard-working Americans' time with empty words and PR stunts. Instead of investing in students and workers, the President has offered only a string of cruelly broken promises and budget cuts to vital investments in America's workforce.

"Since day one, this GOP Congress and White House have gutted proven job training and education initiatives that lead to good-paying jobs and lifelong careers, and pushed brutal budgets that kick out the ladders of opportunity from under America's workers. Republicans failed to send an updated career technical education bill to the President's desk, instead pushing a higher education bill that slashes $15 billion from student aid and gives for-profit programs a green light to prey upon students.

"Democrats are offering A Better Deal for the people than the Republican raw deal for workers and students. We are committed to doubling federal investments in work-based learning initiatives, with a new, massive push for apprenticeships and paid on-the-job training to put workers on the path to the good-paying jobs of the 21st Century economy. While Republicans give massive handouts to their donors and special interest friends, we are fighting to tilt the playing field back to the side of the American worker."
