Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement after the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services announced it was slashing funding for Affordable Care Act health insurance navigators to only $10 million, a more than 70 percent cut from last year:

"Yet again, the Trump Administration is trying to trick Americans into buying junk health insurance plans and making it harder for families to enroll in real affordable, quality health coverage.

"Fewer navigators means fewer people enrolled in affordable health insurance, which means higher premiums. Now, the Trump Administration is even pressing taxpayer-funded navigators to divert families into junk health insurance plans that don't provide essential coverage and exclude people with pre-existing conditions.

"Whether cynically cutting the enrollment period in half, withholding key market stabilizing payments or trying to dismantle protections for pre-existing conditions, the Trump Administration has taken every opportunity to make health insurance more expensive for working families. Republicans' spiteful sabotage of Americans' health coverage is driving cruel premium hikes on hard-working families across America, when we should be working constructively to lower health costs for all Americans. Democrats will continue to fight to give Americans A Better Deal on health care, with real action to lower the cost of insurance and prescription drugs for everyone."
