San Francisco — Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi issued this statement on the upcoming August 1 implementation of the Trump Administration settlement to allow the open publication of plans for 3D-printed firearms, which lack serial numbers and cannot be detected using metal detectors and other traditional security measures:

"The Trump Administration's sickening NRA giveaway undermines the very foundations of public safety. Metal detectors and other security measures will be completely useless against the flood of undetectable and untraceable ‘ghost guns' that the GOP is inviting into our schools, workplaces, airports and public buildings.

"The American people overwhelmingly support commonsense action to stop the epidemic of gun violence in our communities, and if brought to the Floor, basic measures would pass immediately with bipartisan support. Yet, Republicans have refused to strengthen life-saving background checks or take meaningful steps toward ending the daily tragedy of gun violence in our country. This settlement makes clear that the GOP is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the NRA.

"This decision is a death warrant for countless innocent men, women and children. For the sake of all our safety and lives, it must be reversed immediately. I salute the leadership of Congressman David Cicilline in introducing legislation to prevent these horrific weapons from flooding our streets."
