San Francisco – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi issued this statement after Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt announced a dramatic rollback of national fuel efficiency and carbon pollution standards for cars and light trucks:

"The Trump Administration's giveaway to big polluters is a startling attack on the clean air our children breathe, and a clear rejection of common-sense scientific truths. Under the GOP's dirty energy agenda, our communities will be choked with more carbon pollution, and millions of hard-working Americans will lose billions of dollars and pay more at the pump.

"Today's announcement is the latest disturbing development of the White House's cynical campaign to turn the federal government into a rubber stamp body for its special interest lobbyist friends. In pulling out of the Paris Agreement, pushing reckless executive orders to undermine clean air and clean water and giving dirty power plants the green light to pollute our communities, the Administration is actively making Americans less healthy, less safe and less economically secure.

"The Administration's efforts to end California's waiver and ability to set pollution standards pose a grave threat to the health of tens of millions of Americans. California will fight these assaults on our rights and our health. House Democrats are proud to support the robust fuel economy and pollution standards that protect Americans' clean air, pocketbooks and manufacturing jobs."
