Washington, D.C. — Speaker Nancy Pelosi released the following statement marking three years since the shooting at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh:

"On this solemn day, Americans join the Jewish community of Pittsburgh in mourning the eleven beautiful souls stolen from us three years ago in a brutal attack on the Tree of Life Synagogue. Our hearts break again as we remember the innocent lives lost in this horrific massacre, and we pray for the families and communities forever scarred by losing a loved one to the evils of antisemitism.

"Over the last several years, Jewish communities at home and abroad have suffered an alarming spike in antisemitism, from attacks in supermarkets and synagogues to the disturbing chants heard on the streets of Charlottesville. Sadly, these same dark forces of hatred have reached into many other communities as well, offering an urgent reminder that we must never fail to combat bigotry in all its ugly forms, wherever and whenever it arises.

"Each day, let us pledge to build a future where every American can live in peace — safe from gun violence and free of antisemitism, bigotry and hate."
